Eating Disorders Treatment

Studio City Clinical Associates Treat Eating Disorders From Several Perspectives.

Treatment approaches include mindfulness intuitive eating , interpersonal understanding of the underlying issues, and  reasons eating disorders functioned as preservation of self-esteem or survival skill in childhood, adolescents and young adulthood, as well as the  meaning weight may have for a client. ‘

Eating Disorders start as coping mechanisms in childhood, adolescents,  and/or young adulthood to withstand parental or socialal pressures to be thin. Other issues include feeling a lack of control, suffering from depression or other uncomfortable feelings, as well a using weight to shield oneself from being noticed in response to physical or sexual abuse.

Studio City Clinical Associate assess your issues related to Eating Disorders. Treatment methods include going back to the original style of coping and help clients to learn new ways to manage feelings in more healthy ways.  Other therapists start with a behavioral approach, learning to eat when you are hungry and stopping when you are full. Mindful, interpersonal,  involves providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment in which clients can become aware of eating, binging, or withholding at the moment as the thoughts and feelings occur to use food to medicate feelings: thoughts, or a more significant issue.  Awareness of wanting to binge or withholding food allows the client to develop connections between food, behavior, feelings, and meanings food has for clients. If there is deeper trauma such as physical or sexual abuse the trauma is addressed as a beginning of the eating disorder treatment As these issues are explored and understood, other coping methods will be explored such as self-soothing or definition of clients being large or small.
